Hypnosis & Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

Make change from the inside out.

The Part of Your Mind that Drives Change

Your subconscious mind is running in the background of your life, processing your memories, emotions, beliefs, habits, and automatic behaviors below the level of conscious thought.

Hypnosis and NLP work directly with that part of your mind, so you can more easily update your automatic responses and easily make empowered changes.

You've likely been using the wrong part of your mind to change.

All Change is Unconscious

When you're first learning how to ride a bike or drive a car, it is a very conscious activity and requires significant focus and attention. Once your mind learns how to do it, however, it becomes something you can do automatically without much thought.

All learning is like this. The problem is, sometimes your mind learned behaviors, habits, or strategies for life that you now do automatically that you no longer want to do.

Because it's now on autopilot, trying to use willpower to make change can feel as difficult as trying to unlearn how to ride a bike.

When we work at the level of the unconscious, we're able to remap or rewire how your mind knows how to do things, so you can update these "autopilot" thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Hypnosis Creates Heightened Suggestibility

Hypnosis is a state of focused attention and heightened suggestibility, typically induced by a trained practitioner using mental imagery.

While in this state, a person experiences deep relaxation and reduced peripheral awareness, making them more open to positive suggestions and new ways of perceiving things that can influence their thoughts, feelings, perceptions & behaviors.

Hypnosis is not a form of unconsciousness or sleep.

You're aware and in control throughout. It's widely accepted as a legitimate tool for personal change for a variety of issues. Research has proven that it works by altering activity in brain regions associated with attention and self-awareness.

Traditional talk therapy works mostly with the conscious mind through more self-awareness, behavior modification, and insight into why you feel the way you do.

However, many people I work get tired of talking about their problems, managing their emotions and behaviors, and using willpower to try to overpower their instinctual or automatic responses.

"What if this was easy?"

One of the places where people often get stuck is that you're holding onto the idea that change has to be hard.

As mentioned above, it can feel that way if you've spent years in therapy without feeling too much different or if you've struggled for a long time with a problem.

But a part of you still knows you can change because that's why you're here, isn't it?

One question to consider even before we speak: "What if this was easy?" Hypnosis & NLP are some of the fastest modalities to help you notice a powerful shift in how you think, feel, and behave.

Hypnosis to Create Change

Surprising Facts About Hypnosis:

  • Hypnosis is a natural, wakeful state: You remain fully awake & aware. You are able to hear and comprehend everything. In fact, the average person enters a hypnotic-like state several times a day with experiences such as arriving at a destination with no memory of the drive, zoning out while reading, or losing track of time watching TV.
  • Hypnosis has a long history: Hypnosis has been recognized since the 18th century, when Franz Anton Mesmer first brought it to public attention around 1770. It has since evolved from a curiosity into a highly respected modality of personal change.
  • The origins of hypnotic change began with using hypnosis as a form of anesthesia: Hypnosis is a powerful tool for pain management. It works by removing the emotional experience of pain while still allowing the physical sensation. This distinction that has made it popular for women during childbirth, as well as in other medical settings.
  • Stage hypnosis and hypnosis for personal change are very different: The dramatic performances seen on stage is nothing like what we do in sessions. Stage hypnosis relies on showmanship and performance and is a completely different intention.
  • Hypnosis doesn't cause memory loss: Memory loss under hypnosis is not automatic. Since hypnosis is rooted in suggestion, forgetting memories only occurs when that is a specific, intended outcome. Even then, those memories can typically be recovered through further suggestion. You'll remember the process; this serves as a tool to help you make use of self-hypnosis strategies to strengthen the change on your own.
  • All hypnosis is self-hypnosis: No hypnotist can make you do anything without your own cooperation. When a hypnotist gives a suggestion, it is you who chooses to follow it. Part of our process involves you learning a powerful strategy for self-hypnosis to build your independence long after we've worked with each other. My work is completely a "do with" process rather than "do to."
